In 2017, Connor Gorman was sitting in a karaoke bar watching people sing songs and wondered what their story was with that song. What is causing that look in their eye that tells you they aren't just singing a song, they're stepping into a memory. In January of 2018, Karaoke Storytellers was born. Jacoby Cochran performed in the Fall of 2018, and has been the host ever since. Connor & Jacoby have produced 59 Karaoke Storytellers to date.
Each show features comedians, singers, storytellers, and everyday people telling a story related to or about a song, followed by a karaoke performance of the song. While the premise is simple, the results are not. We've heard stories of love, loss, perseverance, hope, belonging, triumph, and everything else on the spectrum of life. And somehow each performer selects the perfect song to compliment their story.
"There’s something surprisingly disarming about hearing someone explain why a particular song matters to them. Once you’ve heard the story behind a song, it often takes on new meaning. The lyrics haven’t changed, but the way you hear them has. As someone shares a meaningful piece of their life, it’s hard not to think about the songs that have shaped our own. Before long, the audience isn’t only listening to another person’s story; they’re remembering pieces of their own."
-Tiffany Todd, 2026
"The results are bare, vulnerable, and truly unique."
-Chicago Reader, 2018
